WHAT IS THE ROADTRIP NATION CAREER DAY EXPERIENCE?
This event will shift students’ perspectives of what a career is—and how to find one— encouraging them to look beyond a standard list of occupations and instead use their interests to create a career aligned with what they enjoy doing. The event will also introduce students to the challenges they will face on the road to success and how to overcome them.
YOUR ROLE
Most career days call on professionals to talk about the day-to-day details of their job. But these days, students can hop online and easily access tons of info about an occupation. What they don’t have easy access to is a living and breathing human who’s faced life’s challenges and can impart advice! So on career day, you won’t give a speech about your job. You’ll participate in student-led interviews about your job and life: your struggles, successes, and how you got to where you are!
QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT BE ASKED
- What were you doing when you were in high school?
- Did you always know what you wanted to do with your life?
- Who helped you figure out how to take the next steps, like college or applying for a job?
HOW TO PREPARE
- Think about your life story. Go back to key transitions in your life, the feelings you had in those moments, and the decisions that led you to where you are today.
- But don’t think too hard! Our goal is to have an organic conversation that students can relate to, so no need to start crafting responses. Just be you!
